Anne McCaffrey kept her lead with the hardcovers (and still has a book on the paperback list), and L.E. Modesitt, Jr. also appears on both lists, while Arthur C. Clarke rose to the top of the paperbacks. The "Second Foundation" has titles on both the hc and pb lists, by Bear and Benford respectively, and Bear also has another title with the hardcovers. We had no new hc runner-up. There were 88 nominees, up from 85.

As usual, most of the paperbacks are newcomers. The new runner-up is Distress by Greg Egan (HarperPrism). We had 111 nominees, up from 107.

King's Wizard and Glass stays atop the trade paperback list for a fourth(!) month, still with a good lead, and we had a tie for #5. New runner-up: Walking the Labyrinth by Lisa Goldstein (Tor). Nominees: 75, up from 61.

In media tie-ins, the latest Star Wars took first place with a big lead. New runner-up: Quantum Leap XVI: Foreknowledge by Christopher DeFilipis (Berkley Boulevard). We had 35 nominees, up from 31.

The new Shadowrun heads the gaming-related books, and again there is just one holdover. New runner-up was Forgotten Realms: The Abduction by J. Robert King (TSR). We had 26 nominees, down from 27.
