Guide to publishing (and writing) science fiction, with chapters on the varieties of SF, conventions, where writers get their ideas, the components of short stories and of novels, characters, submitting manuscripts, self-promotion, awards, agents, e-books and the Internet, taxes, and writer's associations; plus appendices with lists of agents, publishers, and model contracts. Foreword by Tor senior editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden [and that's a photo of a stack of Tor books on the cover]. Doctorow won this year's John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer; Schroeder has a new novel, Ventus coming next month from Tor. (Tue 14 Nov 2000)
