Winter's Heart swept the hardcover category, and A Storm of Swords and The Truth had no close competition in the No. 2 and 3 slots. Darwin's Blade by Dan Simmons (Morrow) was the new runner-up. We had 79 nominees, down from 87 last month.

Forever Free made a strong showing in the paperback category. New runner-up: Timeline by Michael Crichton (Ballantine). Nominees: 95, down from 102.

Cryptonomicon continues to lead the trade paperback list. New runner-up: The Road to Mars (Knopf), by Eric Idle. Nominees: 64, up from 62.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Agents of Chaos: Jedi Eclipse held on to No.1 in the media-related category. Nominees: 32, the same as last month.

Forgotten Realms: Servant of the Shard had a solid lead over the other gaming-related books. Nominees: 18, down from 25 last month.
