The Years of Rice and Salt led hardcovers by a solid margin; The Shiva Option and A Caress of Twilight made strong showings as well. Bones of the Earth by Michael Swanwick (Eos) was the new runner-up. We had 83 nominees, one less than last month.

Reunion had a solid lead in the paperback category; The Better Part of Valor also had a strong lead over the next title. New runner-up: Connie Willis's Passage (Bantam Spectra). Nominees: 96, up from 86.

Tolkien titles continue to dominate the trade paperback list, with The Hobbit taking the top spot. The Book of Eibon edited by Robert M. Price (Chaosium) was the new runner-up. Nominees: 60, down from 63.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Rebel Dream dominated media-related titles. Nominees: 29, off from 31.

DragonLance: Dragons of a Lost Star had double the points of the next title in the gaming-related category. Nominees: 35, up slightly from 32.
