A Caress of Twilight had a solid lead in the hardcover category. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore (Morrow) was the new runner-up. We had 67 nominees, well down from 83 last month.

Angry Lead Skies headed the paperback list by a substantial margin. New runner-up: Robert Doherty's Area 51: Excalibur (Dell). Nominees: 78, down from 96.

Tolkien titles continue to dominate trade paperbacks, with The Lord of the Rings and The Fellowship of the Ring taking the top two spots by a solid margin. Nebula Awards Showcase 2002 edited by Kim Stanley Robinson (Roc) was the new runner-up. Nominees: 50, down from 60.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Rebel Dream had no close competition in the media-related category for the second month straight. Nominees: 34, up from 29.

BattleTech: Storms of Fate led gaming-related titles by a strong margin. Nominees: 27, down from 35.
