Locus Awards Winners

The 2003 Locus Awards were presented Friday evening, July 4, at Westercon in SeaTac, Washington. The awards are given to winners in Locus Magazine's annual poll. Complete Locus Poll results will appear in the August issue of the magazine.

  • Toastmaster at the awards banquet was Connie Willis. Winners present were Alex Irvine, Gardner Dozois, Bruce Sterling, Gordon Van Gelder (for F&SF), Tom Doherty (for Tor), and Bob Eggleton.

    Kim Stanley Robinson's award was accepted by Kathleen Ann Goonan, while Bruce Sterling accepted the two awards won by China Miéville. Neil Gaiman's two awards were accepted by Lisa Snellings. Eileen Gunn accepted for Ursula K. Le Guin, and Alex Irvine accepted for Ted Chiang. In addition to the Locus Award plaques for the winners, certificates were given out to publishers of winning books and stories.

    Several additional awards were also given this year:

  • Tom Doherty, for winning the Locus Award 15 years in a row
  • SPECIAL AWARD
  • Eileen Gunn, best acceptor
  • SPECIAL AWARD
  • Bob Eggleton, for artistic contributions to Locus

  • Connie Willis, best toastmaster
  • John Berry accepted Eileen Gunn's special award; Eileen Gunn accepted for Connie Willis. Bob Eggleton showed his hair.
