Dragon's Kin debuted strongly, taking first place in the hardcover category with Quicksilver making a good showing as well. New runner-up: The Elder Gods by David Eddings & Leigh Eddings (Warner Aspect). We had 69 nominees, up from 57 last month.

Crossroads of Twilight overwhelmed the competition in the paperback category, leading by over 100 points. New runner-up: Ill Wind by Kevin J. Anderson & Doug Beason (Forge). Nominees: 74, up from 71.

The Lord of the Rings topped the trade paperback category, edging out The Silmarillion by one point. New runner-up: The Grand Crusade by Michael A. Stackpole (Bantam Spectra). Nominees: 45, up from 42 last month.

The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare pulled into the lead in the media-related titles, up from third place last month, with the next few titles in close competition. Nominees: 30, up from 24.

Halo: First Strike swept the gaming-related category with almost twice as many votes as Forgotten Realms: Insurrection. Nominees: 17, down from 21.
