The paperback list was led by William Gibson's Pattern Recognition (Berkley). New runner-up: Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison (HarperTorch). Nominees: 91, way up from 63.

The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (Del Rey) headed the trade paperback list. The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla by Stephen King (Scribner) was runner-up. Nominees: 50, up from 46.

Star Wars: Labryinth of Evil squeaked past Star Wars: Survivor's Quest for top media-related title. Nominees: 30, up from 29.

Forgotten Realms: The Two Swords topped the gaming-related list for the fifth month running. Nominees: 24, same as last month.
