Two books debut on Amazon lists today: Charlaine Harris' Dead as a Doornail (Ace), latest in her Southern Vampire series, and in the UK the third Science of Discworld volume from Terry Pratchett, Ian Stewart, and Jack Cohen, called Darwin's Watch (Ebury Press). Paperback editions of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy rose on several lists, in anticipation or reaction to the film adaptation that opened last Friday. J.K. Rowling's forthcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince continues to ranks #1 on all 3 Amazon lists again this week. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
