All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

SFFH Books on General Bestseller Lists

Cormac McCarthy's The Road, just out in paperback and boosted by Oprah Winfrey, debuts on several paperback lists this week, as high as #2 at New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and USA Today. Other notable debuts this week are also in paperback: Keri Arthur's Dangerous Games (Dell Spectra) and reprints of books by Laurell K. Hamilton and James Patterson. Australian bookseller Dymocks, which redesigned its site a few months back with a link to an extended bestseller list, stopped updating that list several weeks ago and has now removed the link altogether. J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows remains #1 on the three Amazon lists this week.
