converting from second class to first class delivery,
please convert all remaining issues on your present
subscription (75c per issue). The number after your
name on the mailing label is that of the last issue on
your present subscription. We do not send notices
when subscriptions are about to expire. If you change
your address, please notify us immediately. Second
class mail is not usually forwarded. It is either returned
or destroyed. We subtract one issue from your subscription
for each returned copy. We keep expired
addresses on file for one year, so tell us if your
subscription is a renewal or completely new.

You may have noticed a somewhat different look
to parts of this issue. We switched to a LaserJet
printer in the middle and have experimented with
several type styles. We still have no idea what the
final printing will look like. The learning process is
slow, and you will have to bear with us for several
issues. We now have proportional type available,
which gives more words to a line with the same size
type, but it’s not true typesetting. The printer and
softwear have limitations we’re still discovering.
(Changes and corrections are much more difficult to
make.)
We learned the truth of the joke “What’s the
difference between a computer salesman and a used
car salesman? Answer: A used car salesman knows
when he’s lying.” The printer didn’t quite work
right with our programs, and we bought new
programs which also didn’t work right. We’re still
not sure what we’re doing, but thanks to Bill
Contento (who is constantly rewriting the program),
and advice from Bob Collins, who is going through
the same problems with Fantasy Review, we might
just fake it enough to get this issue out. It should
be easier next time. We might even get the spacing
to work right! Special thanks to Faren, who is still
inside slaving over a hot computer even though it’s
Sunday evening.
NOVEMBER ISSUE GOES O.P.
A funny thing happened on our way to mailing last
issue. We ran out of copies. There were several
hundred extra orders from bookstores, etc., after we
had set the print run. We were able to scrape up
just enough copies to fill almost all the orders, but
anyone who renewed late or sent in a late
subscription with a request for the November issue
was out of luck. All late renewals started with
December no matter what was marked on the renewal
