Series books were on the top of our hardcover list, with John Scalzi’s latest entry in his Old Man’s War series, The End of All Things, edging out Fool’s Quest, book two of Robin Hobb’s Fitz and the Fool fantasy series. Half a War by Joe Abercrombie (Del Rey) was the new runner-up. There were 38 titles nominated, down from last month’s 45.

In a reversal from the hardcover list, Fool’s Assassin by Robin Hobb (the first book in the Fitz and the Fool trilogy) took the top spot, followed by John Scalzi’s Lock In. The new runner-up was Crossways by Jacey Bedford (DAW). We had 56 nominated titles, down from 67 last month.

The trade paperback list still belongs to The Martian by Andy Weir as it continues to garner almost a third more votes than its nearest competitor. Ann Leckie’s Ancillary Justice moved back into second place. There were no new runners-up, with 32 nominated titles, down from last month’s 37.

In media-related books, new release Star Trek: Seekers: Long Shot by David Mack came out ahead of Star Wars: Imperial Handbook by Daniel Wallace. There were no new runners-up. There were 19 nominated titles, the same number as last month.

Repeating his April hat trick, R.A. Salvatore’s Companion Codex books took the top three spots in gaming-related books with Forgotten Realms: Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf and Forgotten Realms: Rise of the King in first and second place, followed by Forgotten Realms: Night of the Hunter. There were no new runners-up. We had 11 nominated titles, down from last month’s 17.
