All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.
Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

David Weber's By Heresies Distressed (Tor) debuts notably this week, ranking #10 on Washington Post's hardcover fiction list and just missing the top ten at #11 on the counterpart New York Times list. It's #108 on the combined USA Today list.
Further down among NYT hardcover fiction runners-up is John Ringo's Eye of the Storm (Baen), ranking #32.
The trade paperback edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Scholastic) debuts on USA Today's list this week at #5, though as usual it's excluded from the NYT children's paperback list as a series title. Its release, and perhaps the latest Harry Potter film, have brought earlier titles in the series back onto lists as well.
