All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.
Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

Lev Grossman's The Magicians (Viking), a novel by the Time Magazine critic about a boy who discovers the imaginary world he's read about in a series of fantasy novels is real, debuts strongly on fiction hardcover lists this week, ranking #6 at Washington Post, #8 at Publishers Weekly, #9 at New York Times.
Also debuting this week, a new Patricia Briggs novel, Hunting Ground (Ace), sequel to Cry Wolf and just published today, ranking remarkably at #21 on Amazon.com's list today, #49 on Amazon Canada's list.
Meanwhile, Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife still ranks very high on all lists this week, at the #1 position on five of the eight lists compiled here. Another film tie-in, Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones, basis for the Peter Jackson film opening in December, ranks on two lists this week.
And Charlaine Harris never dies; all eight of her Sookie Stackhouse novels rank again this week on the NY Times mass market paperback list (all of them rising in standings since last week), all eight rank on the USA Today and Amazon UK lists, and all but two rank on the Publishers Weekly list.
