All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood (Doubleday/Nan A. Talese) debuts strongly on print lists this week, ranking as high as #6 on the San Francisco Chronicle fiction hardcover list, and ranking #8 on lists in New York Times, Washington Post, and Publishers Weekly.

Other debuts include Neil Gaiman's Odd and the Frost Giants (HarperCollins), ranking #5 on the NYT children's chapter book list, and the mass market paperback edition of Stephen King's Just After Sunset (Pocket), ranking as high as #4 on PW's mass market list.
