All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.
Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

The major debut this week is Cassandra Clare's City of Fallen Angels (McElderry), fourth in her Mortal Instruments YA series, debuting on the combined USA Today list at #2.
Meanwhile, George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones has launched an HBO TV series, and now his backlist is selling again, most prominently in the UK, where an edition of that book is #1 on Amazon UK today -- and #2 on Amazon Canada. The other three earlier titles are also on Amazon UK, and two of them are on Amazon.com. The forthcoming volume, A Dance with Dragons, ranks #30 today on Amazon.com in pre-publication orders.
Then there's Jennifer Egan, whose A Visit from the Goon Squad just won a Pulitzer Prize. The fortuitously just-release trade paperback edition has already ranked on two of the print lists, as high as #5 on the LA Times list, and it ranks on all three Amazon lists, ranking #14 today on Amazon.com, which also ranks the hardcover edition at #96.
The unexplained ranking this week is Iain M. Banks' Consider Phlebas (Orbit, 2008), for some reason placing #96 on the combined USA Today bestseller list.
