Comic-Con to Stay in San Diego

The organizers of Comic-Con International, the world’s largest comics convention, have announced the event will stay in San Diego for the foreseeable future. As the convention, founded in 1970, has grown over the years and expanded to include TV, film, books, and other media, it’s started to outgrow the facilities available in San Diego. Recently other cities, including Los Angeles and Anaheim, have made bids to host the convention in future years, offering more space and other services. San Diego made a counteroffer, promising to expand their own facilities.

Regarding the decision to stay in San Diego, marketing and PR director David Glanzer said, “We are grateful for the tireless efforts all three cities put into to their proposals. In the end, we feel this decision is the best for all those who attend Comic-Con and for the organization itself. We are happy that the community has worked with us to ensure that we remain here.”

The 42nd Comic-Con will be held July 21-24, 2011 at the San Diego Convention Center.
