Adam Niswander (1946-2012)

Author and bookseller Adam Niswander, 66, died August 12, 2012 after several months in the hospice unit of a VA hospital in Phoenix AZ.

Niswander’s books include the Shaman Cycle — The Charm (1993), The Serpent Slayers (1994), The Hound Hunters (1995), and The War of the Whisperers (2009) — and standalones The Sand Dwellers (1998) and The Repository (1999). Some of his short fiction was collected in Blurring the Edges of Dream (2004). He served as president of the Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society and founded Lovecraft convention MythosCon.

Niswander was born February 2, 1946 in Flushing NY. He joined the Navy in 1966, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1970. He worked as an actor until 1976, and in 1977 moved to Phoenix AZ, where he founded Adam’s Bookstore in 1984.
