In an embarrassing but famous incident, Isaac Asimov announced the winner of the short story award as Gene Wolfe (who placed 2nd in voting), before being hastily advised that he had misread the results and "no award" was the actual winner. It was later reported that some members may have indicated "no award" intending to abstain from voting, whereas they were actually voting for no award to be given.
