Scholars and critics include the authors of nonfiction books and articles nominated for SF/F/H awards, as well as those honored by academic/professional awards for scholarship. The Hugos, Stokers, and Locus awards all have specific categories for nonfiction books, as do the Mythopoeic Awards (for books on fantasy), while the Australian Ditmar Awards incorporate a special award, the William Atheling Jr. Award for Criticism or Review, that usually honors essays or reviews rather than books. Career awards for scholarship are the Pilgrim Award, given by the Science Fiction Research Association, and the Distinguished Scholar Award, given by the International Association of the Fantastic in the Arts (IAFA); these are indicated in the first two columns.
