- * *Twentieth-Century Science-Fiction Writers, Second Edition (St. James 0-912289-27-9, Sep 86, $67.50, 933pp, hc) Non-fiction, bibliography/biography/critical study covering nearly all the American and English sf writers of the 20th century, plus pieces on selected foreign writers, 19th century writers, and fantasy writers. There are, individually, better bibliographical, biographical, and critical studies elsewhere, but not in one convenient place. It also does a good job on minor writers not covered anywhere else. Some of the work is sloppy and unchecked, but, on the whole, this is the best one-volume work of its kind and the only up-to-date one. Highly recommended. (CNB)
