Richard Matheson: Collected Stories Richard Matheson (Scream/Press, Oct ’89, $20.00, 899pp, tp); Collection of 85 stories with an introduction by Matheson and commentary by others, including Bradbury, Finney, and King. This is a special “Prevue edition” of 350 copies published for the 1989 World Fantasy Convention. It has been laser printed and will not be the same as the final book, if it appears.


Through Channels Richard Matheson (Footsteps Press, Sep ’89, $15.00, 11pp, ph); Horror short story, illustrated by Allen Koszowski, with an introduction by Vincent Price and an afterword by Roger Corman. This is a signed, numbered, limited edition chapbook of 500 copies. There are 52 additional lettered copies signed also by Price (sold out before publication).

Translated from the Spanish by Michael Scott Doyle. First American edition (Spain 1968 as Algunos muchachos)


The Dark Side Guy de Maupassant (Carroll & Graf 0-88184-459-4, Jun ’89 [May ’89], $18.95, 252pp, hc); Collection of 31 stories, selected, translated, and introduced by Arnold Kellet, with a foreword by Ramsey Campbell. This was printed with the Xanadu edition, a new dust jacket, both publishers on the copyright page, and a Carroll & Graf cancellation sticker placed over Xanadu on the title page. First American edition (Xanadu 1989).


The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Marianna Mayer (Bantam Skylark 0-553-05844-4, Nov ’89 [Oct ’89], $13.95, 64pp, hc); Retelling of a classic children’s fairy tale, with full-color illustrations by David Wiesner.

Isaac Asimov’s Fantasy! ed. Shawna McCarthy (Ace 0-441-05499-4, Jan ’90 [Dec ’89], $3.95, 264pp, pb, cover by David Archer); Reprint (Dial 1985) anthology of fantasy stories that first appeared in Asimov’s. This is an abridged edition containing only 15 of the 19 stories in the first edition.


Isaac Asimov’s Space of Her Own ed. Shawna McCarthy (Ace 0-441-77871-2, Oct ’89 [Sep ’89], $3.95, 244pp, pb); Reprint (Davis 1983) anthology of sf and fantasy by women writers. This is an abridged edition containing only 17 of the 22 stories in the first edition.


Screwtop/The Girl Who Was Plugged In ed. Anon. (Tor 0-812-54554-0, Apr ’89 [Mar ’89], $2.95, 79+57pp, pb); Anthology of two novellas. The Tiptree won a Hugo Award. The book also includes the first three chapters of Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner as a promotional bonus. Tor Double #7.

Thought Probes: Philosophy Through Science Fiction Literature, Second Edition ed. Fred D. Miller, Jr. & Nicholas D. Smith (Prentice-Hall 0-13-920059-2, Dec ’88 [Jan ’89], no price listed, 334pp, hc); Anthology of eight stories plus analysis, commentary, and academic verbiage. Although this is a “second edition” of a 1981 book, it seems to be updated and at least some of the stories are different.
