Welcome to Reality: The Nightmares of Philip K. Dick ed. Uwe Anton (Broken Mirrors Press 0-9623824-5-0, Feb ’91, $12.95, 208pp, tp, cover by Dawn Wilson); Anthology of stories influenced by or about PKD, or that feature him as a character, including several originals, with introductions by the editor and Paul Williams. First appeared in German (Heyne 1990). This is the first English language edition. The contents are not quite the same as in the German original — some German authors have been dropped in favor of U.S./U.K. authors. The stories and introduction originally in German have been translated by Jim Young. A limited hardcover edition (-4-2, $55.00) was announced but not seen.

Lou Aronica, Amy Stout & Betsy Mitchell (Doubleday Foundation 0-385-41802-7, Jun ’91 [May ’91], $12.00, 535pp, tp, cover by Barclay Shaw); Original anthology of 23 stories with an introduction by Aronica. A hardcover edition (-41801-9, $20.00) is also available. Highly recommended. (FCM)


Copper Star ed. Bruce D. Arthurs (1991 World Fantasy Convention, Oct ’91, no price, 221pp, hc, cover by Arlin Robins); Original anthology of 15 fantasy stories set in the Southwest and written by Southwestern writers including Ed Bryant, Melanie Tem, and Jennifer Roberson. There is an introduction by the editor and illustrations by various artists. 900 copies were distributed free at the 1991 World Fantasy Convention in Tucson AZ. A “retail” signed, numbered, slipcased edition of 300 copies is available for $30.00, and a signed leatherbound edition of 26 lettered copies was also produced, mostly for free distribution to contributors and guests.

Cal Isaac Asimov (Doubleday, 1990 [Aug ’91], no price, 30pp, ph); Original Asimov short story free to members of the “Isaac Asimov Collection”, a subscription book club. The words “Not for sale in bookstores” seem to almost be part of the title. It’s copyright 1990 but not seen until now.


Cosmic Critiques: How and Why 10 Science Fiction Stories Work ed. Isaac Asimov & Martin H. Greenberg (Writer’s Digest 0-89879-394-7, Mar ’90 [Jan ’91], $12.95, 197pp, tp); Anthology of ten sf stories with short introductions by Asimov and commentary on each by Anson Dibell.

The New Hugo Winners Volume II ed. Isaac Asimov & Martin H. Greenberg (Baen 0-671-72103-8, Jan ’92 [Dec ’91], $4.99, 368pp, pb, cover by Bob Eggleton); Anthology of nine Hugo Award-winning stories, the three for each year 1986-1988, plus an apologetic note by Asimov and a list of past Hugo Award winners. Only Asimov’s name appears on the cover. This was originally announced by Wynwood Press, but that edition doesn’t seem to have appeared.
