Beastmarks A. A. Attanasio (Mark V. Ziesing 0-9612970-2-6, Jan ’85, $25.00 signed edition; $13.95 trade, 120pp, hc); Collection of 7 stories, apparently all originals. The illustrations are by Rich Schindler. The book is copyright 1984, but did not appear until January 1985. Recommended. (FCM)


Books of Blood Clive Barker (Scream/Press 0-910489-14-9, Nov ’85, $50.00 special boxed edition, $30.00 trade edition, 455pp, hc); Omnibus edition of Clive Barker’s Books of Blood, Vols. 1, 2, & 3 (all Sphere 1984). First omnibus, and first American edition of an original collection which was split into three volumes for its first appearance. All 3 have corrected texts and some slight rewriting here. World Fantasy Award winner Barker is one of the hottest new talents, and the book is fittingly illustrated with gruesome artwork by J.K. Potter and Harry O. Morris. Recommended—but not for the easily offended or the faint of heart. (FCM)

The Best of Marion Zimmer Bradley Marion Zimmer Bradley (Academy Chicago 0-89733-166-4, 1985 [Nov ’85], $4.95, 367pp, pb); Collection of 16 stories arranged chronologically. Edited by Martin H. Greenberg. A hardcover was announced, but did not appear until 1986.


Web of Darkness Marion Zimmer Bradley (Richard Drew 0-86267-092-6, 1985 [Oct ’85], £9.95, 369pp, hc) [Web of Darkness]; Omnibus edition of Web of Light (Timescape 1983) and Web of Darkness (Donning 1983), an Atlantean fantasy saga. This is the first hardcover edition as well as the first one-volume edition. The book was written as such but split in the U.S. for various profitable reasons.


Free Amazons of Darkover Marion Zimmer Bradley & The Friends of Darkover (DAW 0-88677-096-3, Dec ’85 [Nov ’85], $3.50, 304pp, pb) [Darkover]; Original anthology of 18 stories about the Free Amazons. Many of these appeared in earlier Darkover fanzines but have not been published professionally. There are two stories by Bradley plus an introduction and notes on each story.


Sword and Sorceress II ed. Marion Zimmer Bradley (DAW 0-88677-041-6, May ’85 [Apr ’85], $2.95, 287pp, pb); Anthology of 15 original stories.


Sixty Selected Poems Joseph Payne Brennan (New Establishment Press 0-932445-10-1, Feb ’85 [Jan ’85], $5.00, 75pp, pb; also announced in hc for $14.00); A collection of “mainstream” poetry, but with overtones of dark fantasy, from the Weird Tales author. The book contains some excellent work, and readers with an interest in poetry as well as fantasy should give it a try. Recommended. (FCM)
