Huge, intricate, and frequently hilarious novel of the ultimate occult conspiracy—or the ultimate human delusion. The grimmer conspiracy buffs may take offense, and fantasy/horror fans won’t get their fill of wonders or grue, but this is a marvelous book. Eco cuts a grand swath through the shadow world. Recommended (FCM).

The complete introduction and preface appear here for the first time. Illustrated by Ken Snyder, this is a signed, numbered, 582 copy limited edition. In an age of signed limited editions costing several hundred dollars, it’s a pleasure to find a modest, but well reproduced one at a modest price.
