The Invisible Man H. G. Wells (Everyman 0-460-87628-7, Nov ’95 [Oct ’95], £4.99, 182pp, pb, cover by René Magritte); Reprint (Pearson 1897) classic SF novel, with an introduction, annotations, and notes by Macdonald Daly. This is a textually corrected reprint of the first American edition (Arnold, 1897) which had added an Epilogue.


The Happy Prince and Other Stories Oscar Wilde (Penguin/Godfrey Cave 0-14-062137-7, Oct ’94 [Apr ’95], £1.00, 204pp, pb, cover by Ackerman); Reprint (??? ???) young-adult fantasy collection. Omnibus of The Happy Prince (1888) and A House of Pomegranates (1891). An Afterword by Jack Zipes plus other material is listed but not included. Published in 1994 but not seen until now.

The Penguin Book of Classic Fantasy by Women ed. A. Susan Williams (Penguin 0-14-024318-6, May ’95 [Jun ’95], £7.99, xv+572pp, tp, cover by Evelyn de Morgan); Reprint (Xanadu 1992 as The Lifted Veil) anthology of 34 stories by women, published between 1806 and 1936. Contents differ slightly from the earlier edition; several stories were dropped, one added.


The Penguin Book of Modern Fantasy by Women ed. A. Susan Williams & Richard Glyn Jones (Viking UK 0-670-85907-9, May ’95, £17.00, 560pp, hc, cover by Leonora Carrington); Fantasy/SF anthology of epic proportions - 38 stories (3 original) by women, published between 1941 and 1994. There is an Introduction by Joanna Russ.


Caliban’s Hour Tad Williams (Legend 0-09-926171-5, Sep ’95, £4.99, 180pp, pb, cover by Bruce Pennington); Reprint (Legend 1994) fantasy novel. A tale of magic and menace derived from Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”, wherein Caliban confronts Miranda twenty years after she left the island, seeking revenge for the cruelties she inflicted.
