Visions of Wonder ed. David G. Hartwell & Milton T. Wolf (Tor 0-312-85287-8, Nov ’96 [Oct ’96], $24.95, 798pp, tp); Anthology, “a definitive anthology of modern SF” designed for classroom use. There are nine essays, 32 stories, and a selective guide to SF scholarship by Gary K. Wolfe. A hardcover edition (-86224-5, $35.00) was announced but not seen.

There is an introduction by T.K.F. Weisskopf, discussing Howard’s mix of real-world and fictional references in these works. This is the seventh volume in the “Robert E. Howard Library”. publications.


Eons of the Night Robert E. Howard (Baen 0-671-87717-8, Apr ’96 [Mar ’96], $5.99, 238pp, pb, cover by C. W. Kelly); Sword & sorcery collection of ten stories, with a new introduction by S.M. Stirling, and an introduction by Howard taken from a 1933 letter to H.P. Lovecraft. This seems to be a completely new compilation.
