An early 20th century fantasy classic; one of Edward Eager’s inspirations. Recommended despite its rather dated style. There’s a new afterword by Madeleine L’Engle. (DLN)

Sf and fantasy art, including reproductions of book covers, posters, and album jackets. A well-designed compendium which will be a must for all Matthews fans. Recommended. (FCM)

Jack and Susan in 1953 Michael McDowell (Ballantine 0-345-32366-1, Aug ’85 [Jul ’85], $3.50, 280pp, pb) First in a new series featuring a couple that remains “forever young” through various adventures that will eventually span the 20th century. There isn’t any other fantasy content.

The Hero and the Crown Robin McKinley (SFBC #3927, Apr ’85 [Mar ’85], $5.98, 224pp, hc) [Damar] Reprint (Greenwillow 1984) fantasy novel. Winner of the Newbery prize as best juvenile of the year. A fine prequel to The Blue Sword, even better than its predecessor. (DLN)

Burgess is also credited as a contributor, but not on the cover. The book is apparently also available as a library hc, 0-89370-681-X, $24.95. The pb is available from Newcastle Publishing Co., the hc reprint is produced and distributed by The Borgo Press.
