Cthulhu: The Mythos and Kindred Horrors Robert E. Howard (Baen 0-671-65641-4, May ’87 [Apr ’87], $2.95, 245pp, pb); David A. Drake, ed. Collection of 13 pieces. One seems to be an original poem from the inexhaustible Howard trunk. I don’t know what, if any, editing in the actual stories was done by Drake. The author in all cases seems to be Howard alone.

There is also an index to Weird Menace pulps and an article about them. Also announced in hardcover; not seen.


The Weirds ed. Sheldon R. Jaffery (Starmont House 0-930261-92-5, Apr ’87, $9.95, 173pp, tp); Anthology of facsimiles of stories, illustrations, and some ads from “the era of the shudder-pulps.” These have all been taken from Terror Stories and Horror Stories. There is a historical introduction on the era.

Tales from the Forbidden Planet ed. Roz Kaveney (Titan 1-85286-004-9, Aug ’87, £4.95, 256pp, tp); Original sf anthology. This is supposedly published on 29th October, but was made available for the Worldcon and is now in most specialist shops.


Devils & Demons ed. Marvin & Saralee Kaye (SFBC #10336, Sep ’87 [Nov ’87], $6.98, 587pp, hc); Anthology of 52 horror stories. The book club edition actually pre-dates the Doubleday trade edition.
