The stories originally appeared in Amazing and Isaac Asimov’s SF Magazine. They feature Basil Argyros, agent of the Empire. All are good by themselves, but they need bridging material to make them work as a novel. Although 15 years are said to elapse in the book, one gets little feeling of this; they could have taken place within months of each other. Still, the book is enjoyable and worth reading. (TM)
