Cheops: A Cupboard for the Sun Paul West (New Directions 0-8112-1519-9, Nov 2002, $25.95, 261pp, hc) Literary historical novel with fantasy elements, set in ancient Egypt. The god Osiris and Herodotus are among the narrators of this sometimes hallucinatory account of palace intrigues that links Cheops’s burial plans with the music of Frederic Delius.
