Tad Williams's latest ''Otherland'' book finally managed to replace Cryptonomicon at the top of the hardcovers, but the top three entries all did very well. There was no new runner-up. We had 88 nominees, down from 102 last month.

John Varley jumped to the lead for the paperbacks, followed by Wilson and Green in a tie – with another tie for #10! ''New'' runner-up is Tor's bargain edition of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, issued to coincide with Ender's Shadow in hardcover. There were 98 nominees, just down from 101.

The Dozois anthology stayed in first place for trade paperbacks, while The Mists of Avalon returned yet again. New runner-up: The Charwoman's Shadow by Lord Dunsany (Del Rey). We had 68 nominees, the same as last month.

The new ''Star Wars X-Wing'' ruled the media-related books, and only four titles made the cut this time. We had 37 nominees, up from 34.

Three of the gaming-related works are ''DragonLance'', with Margaret Weis as (co)author dominating the field this time. The new runner-up is Forgotten Realms: Silverfall by Ed Greenwood (TSR). Nominees: 17, down from 22.
