People Ray Bradbury suffered a mild stroke on November 6 and was briefly hospitalized with temporary paralysis on his right side. He is expected to make a full recovery, and is recuperating at his home in Palm Springs, California. § Greg Bear won the first Endeavour Award for his novel Dinosaur Summer (Warner). The award is for a distinguished SF or fantasy book by a Pacific Northwest writer, and comes with an honorarium of $700 (originally announced as $500). Judges and other finalists for this year's award are given on the award's home page. § Stephen King and Peter Straub have sold a sequel to their 1984 collaboration The Talisman to Random House and Ballantine via agent Ralph Vicinanza. The book, so far untitled, will depict the youthful protagonist of the first book as an adult, and will probably be, according to Straub, darker and contain horror elements. § Scott Edelman will be Master of Ceremonies at next year's Nebula Awards Banquet in New York City on May 20, 2000. The event, a function of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, will include presentation of the 1999 Nebula Awards. Edelman is editor of Science Fiction Age and other magazines.
