Shyamalan Receives Nebula

SFWA president Paul Levinson visited filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan earlier this month to personally deliver the Nebula Award for Best Script of 1999 to the writer (and director) of The Sixth Sense. The award was announced at the Nebula banquet in New York City, May 20, which Shyamalan was unable to attend.

Levinson's presentation was made on the set of Shyamalan's new movie Unbreakable, starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Robin Penn Wright, and like The Sixth Sense being filmed in Philadelphia.

Shyamalan issued the following statement upon receipt of the award:

It is truly an honor for me to have received the Nebula Award from the Science Fiction Writers of America for The Sixth Sense. It is especially meaningful knowing that this is the first time the award has been given for Best Screenplay in more than twenty years. I would like to thank Dr. Paul Levinson and all of the members of the Science Fiction Writers of America for this award and their recognition.
