    War Protest

Author Ursula K. Le Guin led a march to protest the war on Iraq, taking part in a weekly peace rally hosted by the Portland Peaceful Response Coalition and leading a group of fifty protesters from Portland's Pioneer Square to the office of congressman David Wu, to deliver a writers' and artists' petition against the potential war. Among other writers who have signed the petition, online at http://www.douglaslain.com/aawii.html, are Terry Bisson, Jeffrey Ford, James Patrick Kelly, John Kessel, Michael Moorcock, and Kelly Link.

When asked by a reporter if she thought protesting had any impact, Ms. Le Guin said, "This is the only thing you can do. It's what you've got to do. People ask how the Nazis could have happened, how the German people could have let it happen. Well... we just have to look around to see the answer."

Photos from the event are online.
