Awards

The Science Fiction Poetry Association has announced winners of the 2003 Rhysling Awards for achievement in speculative poetry.

SHORT POEM

First Place: "Potherb Gardening" by Ruth Berman (Asimov’s Science Fiction, Dec. 2002)

Second Place: "A Ghost Story" by Mike Allen (Weird Tales, Spring 2002)

Third Place: "meteor shower" by David C. Kopaska-Merkel (The Magazine of Speculative Poetry, Spring 2002)

LONG POEM

First Place: (tie) "Epochs in Exile: A Fantasy Trilogy" by Charles Saplak & Mike Allen (Eotu Ezine, Feb. 2002)

First Place: (tie) "Matlacihuatl’s Gift" by Sonya Taaffe (Dreams and Nightmares, Sept. 2002)

Second Place: "Medusa’s Tale" by David C. Kopaska-Merkel (Mythic Delirium, Summer/Fall 2002)

Third Place: "Not One of Us" by Tyree Campbell (Sex and the Single Alien, Writer’s Club Press, 2002)

The Science Fiction Poetry Association was founded in 1978 by science fiction writer Suzette Haden Elgin as a forum for poets whose work includes elements of science, science fiction, surrealism, horror or fantasy. Currently the organization has about 100 members. It publishes Star*Line, a bimonthly newsletter and poetry journal.
