KEY

The table shows the current rank of each book and the change since last week, where:

= same as last week

+/- change since last week

+ back on list

++ new on list

x no longer on list (number of x's: weeks off list)

All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

SFFH Books on General Bestseller Lists
posted 29 July 2008

Among several debuts this week the highest ranking is Eoin Colfer's young-adult Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox (Hyperion), ranking #4 on USA Today combined list. It's been selling via Amazon for several weeks already.

Other debuts: Kelley Armstrong's YA The Summoning (HarperCollins) is #10 on New York Times children's chapter book list this week. Arthur C. Clarke's last novel, completed by Frederik Pohl, The Last Theorem (Del Rey, due August 5th), ranks #17 at Amazon.com today, perhaps due to today's CNN article about the book.

Also: the next Sherrilyn Kenyon "Dark-Hunter" novel, Acheron (St. Martin's, August 5th), ranks on two Amazon lists today. A new Patricia Briggs novel, Cry Wolf (Ace), a spin-off from her "Mercy Thompson" series, is also on two Amazon lists today.

That 1995 trade paperback edition of Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons' graphic novel Watchmen (DC Comics), mentioned last week, still ranks high on Amazon lists this week -- #3 today at Amazon.com, and it's cracked USA Today's list this week at #83. Not mentioned last week, but still true now -- numerous other Watchmen and Batman tie-in books, though not compiled here, also rank this week on Amazon lists and USA Today.
