Infernal Devices K. W. Jeter (St. Martin’s 0-312-00706-X, Apr ’87, $16.95, 282pp, hc) “The curious tale of a most unusual array of clockwork automations”, this is set in a Victorian scene that’s part-Lovecraftian, part-gonzo 19th century a la Powers and Blaylock (“steam punk”). It’s one of the best works this sub-genre has produced, a wildly entertaining fantasy. Recommended. (FCM)
