First omnibus, and first American edition of an original collection which was split into three volumes for its first appearance. All 3 have corrected texts and some slight rewriting here. World Fantasy Award winner Barker is one of the hottest new talents, and the book is fittingly illustrated with gruesome artwork by J.K. Potter and Harry O. Morris. There is light-hearted and very readable commentary throughout, plus lots of behind-the-scenes information. A book to read as well as keep for reference. Recommended. (CNB)

Supernatural Fiction Writers: Fantasy & Horror, 2 Vols. ed. Everett F. Bleiler (Scribners 0-684-17808-7, Nov ’85, $135.00, 1169pp, hc) A major reference work in two volumes with critical essays on fantasy authors. The book is done chronologically and is excellent on earlier work but fairly sketchy on the current crop (22 post-1940 writers are discussed). It has excellent coverage of the early 20th Century. Recommended, especially for libraries. Not Available in bookstores. Must be ordered direct. (CNB)
