House of Leaves Mark Z. Danielewski (Random House/Pantheon 0-375-70376-4, Mar 2000, $19.95, 709pp, tp) Literary horror novel of a house that’s bigger on the inside than outside. The format is somewhat eccentric, with varied layout; the word “house” is printed in blue throughout; other editions (not seen) have other text in red, and/or sections with Braille. Introduction and notes by Johnny Truant. The title page (only) says “Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves by Zampanó”. A privately distributed previous edition apparently lacked Chapter 21, appendices II and III, and the index. A signed, limited hardcover edition (-41034-1, $40.00) was announced but not seen. A first novel.

Written as if non-fiction, a series of letters written by a woman in a psychiatric hospital to her son.


Dancing Suns Karen Daniels (NetPub/Vivisphere Publishing 1-892323-19-2, Aug 2000, $16.00, 315pp, tp) [Zaddack Tales] SF novel, book one of “The Zaddack Tales”. A woman, possibly the last human in the universe, goes on a quest with the alien zaddack, a creature with which she was bonded at birth.
