The Kinsman Saga Ben Bova (Tor 0-312-93028-3, Oct ’87 [Sep ’87], $17.95, 566pp, hc) [Kinsman]; Sf novel. A slight rewrite of Bova’s two best books, Millennium (1976) and Kinsman (1979), his excellent series about the space program, near-future politics, and SDI(!). The rewrite adds more characterization and motivation, but events have turned these into parallel world books, destroying most of their original power. (CNB)

The Other Side of the Mirror Marion Zimmer Bradley & The Friends of Darkover (DAW 0-88677-185-4, Feb ’87 [Jan ’87], $3.50, 303pp, pb) [Darkover]; Shared-world anthology of “Darkover” stories. There are 5 stories here. Three of them are by Bradley and apparently appear for the first time. One is a 40,000 word novella. This is the most interesting and best of the “Darkover” anthologies. Lupoff. It contains the complete text of two earlier collections, Nightmares and Geezenstacks (1961) and Honeymoon in Hell (1958), plus additional stories. There is a signed, limited, boxed 475-copy edition ($50) with bound signed sheets left over from an earlier book.
