The Wind from the Sun Arthur C. Clarke (NAL/Signet 0-451-14754-5, Mar ’87 [Feb ’87], $3.50, 244pp, pb); A slightly revised edition (3 new vignettes plus a new introduction) of the earlier collection (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich 1972). Even NAL doesn’t really consider it a new book, and lists it as the 9th printing of the earlier work. Nevertheless, Clarke completists should note the three new “stories.”


Intuit Hal Clement (NESFA Press 0-915368-35-8, Sep ’87, price unknown, 164pp, hc) [Laird Cunningham]; Collection of 4 “Laird Cunningham” sf stories, one original. Issued for the 1987 NASFiC where Clement was Guest of Honor. There are 820 copies, with 225 available in a signed, slipcased edition (-90-0).


Interzone: The 2nd Anthology ed. John Clute, David Pringle & Simon Ounsley (Simon & Schuster UK 0-671-65450-0, Aug ’87, £10.95, 208pp, hc); Anthology of 15 stories. Published in Britain by the British arm of S&S only. Available in U.S. as an import.


Christmas Ghosts ed. Kathryn Cramer & David G. Hartwell (Arbor House 0-87795-873-4, Sep ’87 [Aug ’87], $17.95, 284pp, hc); Anthology of 17 “classic ghost stories of Christmas.”


The Architecture of Fear ed. Kathryn Cramer & Peter D. Pautz (Arbor House 0-87795-921-8, Oct ’87 [Sep ’87], $18.95, 304pp, hc); Original anthology with 14 horror stories by Gene Wolfe, Ramsey Campbell, Charles L. Grant, and others.

The Virago Book of Ghost Stories ed. Richard Dalby (Virago 0-86068-810-0, Nov ’87 [Oct ’87], £12.95, 331pp, hc); Wide-ranging selection of twentieth-century ghost stories written by women, including three stories commissioned especially for this volume.


Demons! ed. Jack M. Dann & Gardner R. Dozois (Ace 0-441-14264-8, Jul ’87 [Jun ’87], $3.50, 283pp, pb, cover by Hiro Kimura); Anthology of 14 fantasy stories about demons.


In the Field of Fire ed. Jeanne Van Buren & Jack M. Dann (Tor 0-312-93000-3, Feb ’87 [Jan ’87], $17.95, 416pp, hc); Mostly original anthology of sf and fantasy stories dealing with Vietnam. The hardcover is a fairly limited edition — probably 750 copies.


The Fifth Omni Book of Science Fiction ed. Ellen Datlow (Zebra 0-8217-2050-3, Apr ’87 [Mar ’87], $3.95, 381pp, pb); Anthology of sf from Omni plus one original story by Pat Cadigan.
