SFFH on General Lists

Robert Jordan's Crossroads of Twilight (Tor) cracks the San Francisco list this week; it now ranks on every US list charted here. Debuting this week is Joe R. Lansdale's novel A Fine Dark Line (Warner), an associational mystery, and the latest paperback reissue of Dean Koontz's Watchers. Added back into this table are rankings of books on pre-publication lists (at Amazon and Publishers Weekly); Rowling's next Harry Potter book, for example, is #1 on that list at Amazon. Given the timing of the lists, some titles still appear there for a week or two after publication, as for example Gibson's Pattern Recognition, which was published last Monday and hasn't had time to appear on regular bestseller lists yet. All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats, and BookScan, which combines hardcovers and paperbacks within lists for fiction, nonfiction, and children's. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
